Tremor Announces first confirmed artists

The first line-up announcement for Tremor 2024 is out. The Azorean festival returns to the island of São Miguel in March and with it concerts by Cole Pulice, Colleen, Glockenwise, Jards Macalé, Prison Affair and Romperayo. Making their debut at the festival a new band composed by Portuguese artists Mc Falcona, Sreya and Bejaflor, Estrela.

Cole Pulice moves in the fields of composition, electroacoustic music and saxophone study and practice. For this concert in the Azores, they bring their most recent solo work, Scry. A deeply contemporary record, incorporating saxophone/wind synthesizer with live signal processing and electronics.

French Cécile Schott, aka Colleen, is fearless in her desire to explore new sounds and ways of creating music. Her most recent album, Le jour et la nuit du réel (Thrill Jockey), is also her first purely instrumental work since 2007, and aims to translate, through a myriad of sonic transformations, the complexity of our relationship with reality.

In their most recent album, Gótico Português, Glockenwise finds parallels between the Portugal of the margins — teeming with imagination and determined to find solutions to its voids — and the “Do It Yourself” music culture, which marked the birth of the band. Gótico Português is an album about the identity of those who are in the middle distance, divided between the margin and the center; written for uncertain times, which require even more songs.

Jards Macalé celebrated, in 2022, the 50th anniversary of his first and eponymous album - a groundbreaking masterpiece that united the realms of Brazilian music, infusing samba and bossa nova with the fiery essence of rock, classical harmonies and the improvisational spirit of jazz. Alongside his new band - with Gui Held on guitar, Pedro Dantas on bass and Maria Portugal on drums - he brings to Tremor a show where the past intertwines with the present in a dazzling demonstration of the artistic prowess of his career.

Barcelona's Prison Affair keep their music straightforward. Lo-fi sound based on synthesized guitar riffs, strong bass lines and almost dehumanized vocals, which transport us, in five minutes, between the identification room, the prison administrator's office and the isolation cell. They perform at Tremor in a power-trio format, joined by Adri (Brux, Psycho Tendencies) on drums.

Romperayo sounds like a dizzying musical journey through Colombian tropical folklore, a “dangerous” and contemporary interpretation of the psychedelic sounds of 70s cumbia and other tropical rhythms. Part of the new Colombian music scene, the band has been reinterpreting its roots in a unique way, combining traditional rhythms and modern electronics. They make their debut in Portugal in this Tremor concert.

The list of acts for this first announcement is completed with the debut of Estrela, a new band composed by three emergent artists in the Portuguese scene: Bejaflor, Mc Falcona and Sreya. The group was created during an artistic residency in the Azores, organized by Rádio Vaivém.

Tremor returns in 2024, between March 19th and 23rd. Tickets are now on sale at 3cket.pt, costing 70 euros. More information at https://www.tremor-pdl.com
